How to Add and Remove Sidebar Widgets
You can do a lot to customize your Wicked Plum shop with widgets — everything from adding Project Wonderful ads to your shop to tucking a listing of your latest blog posts on the sidebar of your items pages.
There are a lot of possibilities, and the best thing to do is dive in and start experimenting to see what you like.
Once you’ve logged into your Wicked Plum shop, click on ‘Appearance’ in the left sidebar, then ‘Widgets’.
This takes you to the lovely Widgets page, which gives you all sorts of options for creating and adding widgets.
There are two places you can put widgets in your Wicked plum shop — in the shop sidebar and in the blog sidebar.
If you want to keep it simple, you can use the same widgets in both of your sidebars, but you don’t have to — that’s the beauty of it.
Say you want to put an archive of your blog in the sidebar of your blog pages. Click on ‘Blog Sidebar’ to open the accordion…
…and then grab the ‘Blog Archives’ button from the center, and drag it over to the ‘Blog Sidebar’.
You can place it above, between, or below what’s already there.
Poof! An archives widget will now show up in your blog sidebar.
There are a bunch of different options for widgets (they’re all in the center of the widget page), but you can also use ‘Rich Text Editor’ widgets to create your own content. Say you’re having a sale on a particular item, and you want to draw attention to it — you can use a “Rich Text Editor” widget to put up a picture, text, and a link.
Drag a “Rich Text Editor” box from the center over to the sidebar you want it to appear in.
Click on “Open Rich Text Editor”…
…and you can enter your title and whatever information you want, including images, links, and text.
You’ll have the usual tools for things like bold, italicize, inserting images, and inserting links.
Click on ‘Save’ and poof! You have a widget.
To delete a widget, click on the little arrow to the right of the widget to open it up…
..and click ‘Delete’.
