How to Hold a Sale
There’s already tutorials on how to set up discounts and free shipping — so what else do you need to know to hold a sale?
A fair bit, actually, if it’s going to be effective. This isn’t so much a tutorial as a link to other tutorials, and a list of some things you can do to promote your sale. Promotion is huge — it’s necessary if you’re going to get customers to come and buy.
Fortunately Wicked Plum gives you several ways to do this within your own shop. The first is to blog about it. If you’ve been blogging regularly, and if you have regular readers, this is where they’ll hear about your sale.
Another way to get the word out is in your newsletter. This can also be used to advertise newsletter-only sales or coupons — useful for both rewarding your regular customers and tempting new ones to subscribe to your newsletter.
You’ll want to advertise your sale on your site itself, as well — by editing your front page and maybe putting a note about it into your sidebar as well.
And of course you’ll want to change your SEO to reflect your sale! It’ll just make you that much more tasty to the search engine junkies.
Promoting your sale is important — on your Wicked Plum site and elsewhere. Post to Twitter, Facebook, and whatever other social groups you’re on. Get the word out! And the ravening hordes will come.
