ADVANCED: How to Configure Bulk Discounts

This is an advanced option, and it’s a little fiddly, but it’s just that — an option. You don’t have to use it if you don’t want to.

But if you want to include bulk discounts for certain items in your shop, this is how you do it.

On the ‘enter new item’ (or ‘edit item’) page, scroll down to the ‘Magic Fields Custom Fields’ section — that’s where you enter the price, quantity, and images. Look for the ‘ADVANCED: Discount Price Array’ field.

There’s a certain amount of math involved in this. Say the regular price of the item is $9.99. If your customer buys four to eight of them, you want to drop the price per piece to $8.99; for more than eight, you want to set it to $6.99. You’d enter the following in the field:

3,9.99:5,8.99:0,6.99

The first set of numbers (3,9.99) tells Wicked Plum that the first three items sold go for $9.99 apiece. The second set (5,8.99) says that the next five — that is to say, four to eight items — cost $8.99 apiece. The last set (0,6.99) simply means that any number of items over eight sells for $6.99 apiece.

Say you want to set up the following price structure:

  • Five items or less sell for $15
  • Six to ten sell for $12 apiece, and
  • Anything more than that goes down to $10 apiece.

You’d enter the following:

5,15.00:5,12.00:0,10.00

The Discount Price Array field is picky — if you don’t enter your prices in exactly the right format, you’ll break, well, just about everything. This is mathy and weird, and if you’ve got a pricing structure in mind but aren’t sure how to set it up, just contact us and we’ll help you out.
