Moderating and Replying To Comments

So you’ve started writing in your blog, and people are starting to comment. That’s great! Commenting is an awesome way to find out who’s paying attention to what you’re saying, and a great way to connect with your customers.

But how to handle comments? How do you find out you’ve gotten one? Read on!

Every time someone comments on your blog, they’ll be asked to enter a name and email address. If they haven’t commented on your blog before, you’ll need to approve their comment. You’ll get an email to that effect, with the subject ‘Please moderate: “Blog Post”’:

It’ll tell you who made the comment, what email address they used, what post they commented on, and what they said.

This email also (usefully) links to all the actions you may have to take, like approving the comment, deleting it, or marking it as spam.

Say the email is from someone you know well, and it’s a comment you want to approve. Click on the link that appears after ‘Approve it’.

This will take you to the ‘Moderate Comment’ screen in Wicked Plum. Click on ‘Approve’.

That will post their comment, and you’ll get another email notifying you that their comment has been posted.

Once you’ve approved someone once, their later comments will go right through without you having to do anything about it—you’ll still get a notification like the one above.

So they’ve commented; of course you want to reply! There are a couple ways to do that. The first is from that comment email—click on the link under ‘You can see all the comments on this post here’.

That will take you to the comments on the post, and you can reply there.

You can also reply to a comment by going to the comments page in the back end of your Wicked Plum shop—click on ‘Comments’ in the lefthand sidebar.

Hover over the comment you want to reply to, and click ‘Reply’.

That will open up a box you can type your comment into.

When you’re done, click ‘Submit Reply’, and poof! Comment.
